I am trying to wrap my mind around when we, humans, actually grow up. What is maturity based on? Why is it so difficult, in my household, to figure out the right direction to go in?
I mean by society's standards we should have had like 12 years of our "careers" under our belt, a retirement fund, land to pass down through the generations, blah, blah, blah...But we still don't know who we are. We are slowly inching in that direction. But not there yet.
Sorry so random...just what I was thinking today.

Maybe a big part of who we are comes out in our struggle to become who we are not (chasing after things we assume are who we ought to be, i.e. retirement funds, societal acceptance and gain). All Americans ass-ume they are entitled to the American dream.
Finding out who we are might take a first step of accepting who we are not.
That's why you are the other half of me...Oh how I love you...s
wow - well said. you can say things that i am thinking but cannot put down into words.
thanks for your raw honesty, steph.
be sure to listen to the mars hill's "school by the side of the road" and "the most normal thing imaginable". its about a couple people giving up their "american dream" pursuit and trading it in for someting much less sparkly...i think it will be encouraging.
